While Didier Deschamps’ French team is due to host Israel on 17 November in the Nations League, Belgium has relocated the match against the Israelis to Hungary (behind closed doors) and the city of Udine is refusing to organise this match against Italy.
After its lackluster run at Euro 2024 up to the semi-finals of the competition, for a defeat (2-1) against the future winner (Spain), the French team will resume at the beginning of September with two shocks. Didier Deschamps’ Blues will host Italy on September 6 at the Parc des Princes, then Belgium three days later at the Groupama Stadium, in the opening of the 2024-2025 Nations League. Israel will be the third opponent for Kylian Mbappé and his teammates. They will first face the Israelis on October 10 in Budapest, where the selection of the Hebrew state.
France-Israel, the fifth match of the Blues, has been scheduled for November 14 at the Stade de France. The match could very well represent a disturbance of public order, outside the stadium as well as inside. Belgium has already anticipated possible incidents for the arrival of the Israeli team and has made an important decision. The Red Devils will only have two “home” matches in this group 2 of League A, since they will “host” Israel in Hungary, on November 17, and this, behind closed doors.
The Blues are waiting
“Given that in Belgium, no local administration considered it possible to organize the Red Devils’ home match against Israel on Friday, September 6, the Royal Belgian Football Union had to look for a solution abroad”the RBFA explained in a statement. The match had initially been scheduled in the Belgian capital, at the King Baudouin Stadium, but the Brussels authorities considered it impossible to hold this match “at very high risk” due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which took a tragic turn last October.
During the draw for the group stage of the League of Nations, last February in Paris, the president of the FFF Philippe Diallo recalled a “extremely difficult context” and stated: “We will be extremely vigilant with the public authorities, so that the perfect conditions for this match can take place. We are waiting to know the date but we will know how to manage this match”The football federation will certainly not be the only one to decide on this matter.
