Same point of “View.”
The “View” co-hosts — Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin — shockingly all agreed that Michelle Obama had every right to skip President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
The group –– who all have differing political opinions –– discussed on Friday’s episode whether the former first lady was “right or wrong” for announcing she wouldn’t be attending the swearing-in ceremony Monday.
“Yes, Lord, she is so right, she is so right!” Hostin began while the audience clapped. “She gave us that, ‘When they go low, we must go high,’ and I think she’s changed her tune. I think when they go low, you have to meet that energy and perhaps go even lower [and] become small like an ant and go to the earth’s crust.”
The “View” co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin all defended Michelle Obama’s decision to not attend Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration. The View/ABC Hostin praised the former first lady for being “so right” to not attend the swearing-in ceremony. The View/ABCHaines chimed in and joked, “Do not cross Sunny Hostin!”
“What I will say is, she said that she did not enjoy Trump’s 2017 inauguration, because there was no diversity, there was no color on that stage, she said there was no reflection of what the broader sense of what America looks like and many people took pictures of her, and she just wasn’t in a good mood,” Hostin, 56, continued.
Griffin –– who previously worked for Trump –– agreed that she had “no problem” with Michelle ditching.
Hostin pointed out that Michelle “wasn’t in a good mood” during Trump’s first inauguration in 2017. The View/ABC Griffin agreed that Michelle has “served her time.” The View/ABCWant more celebrity and pop culture news?

“I think as a spouse, she served her time,” Griffin, 35, said. “I don’t think that shes obligated to be there.”
Haines, 47, also chimed in and added that she does”not mind” the “Becoming” author “not attending.”
“Their family has given so much to this country, [and] they have done so much,” Haines said.
Haines added that Michelle has already “done so much” for America. The View/ABC Meanwhile, Navarro argued that the “Becoming” author is “living her best life.” The View/ABCBehar, 82, interrupted and pointed out that the upcoming inauguration is “not a normal” one, because Trump is a “convicted felon,” so people don’t have to “go as if this is a normal inauguration.”
“Let me say this about Michelle, I think Michelle Obama is living her best life, and I think she has learned to put herself first and put her mental health first,” Navarro, 53, argued.
Navarro reminded viewers that she already “did her job when she was the outgoing first lady” and “played nice” when Trump took office for the first time in January 2017.
“I think she has learned to put herself first and put her mental health first,” Navarro argued. The View/ABC Navarro specifically pointed to a photo of Michelle standing next to her husband, Barack Obama, Trump and Melania Trump at the 2017 inauguration, as seen here. Getty Images“She went to the inauguration, she sat through that insane speech about American carnage, all her pictures are like, ‘Mmm what am I listening to?’ But, I think this time she’s saying, ‘Boo, been there, done that, you’re solo on this. I’m out. I’m gonna do what’s best for my mental health,'” Navarro theorized. “And I think she’s fine to do that.”
Michelle made headlines earlier this week when her office announced on Tuesday that her husband and former President, Barack Obama, will be attending Trump’s inauguration, but Michelle would not be present.
The representative did not elaborate on Michelle’s reasoning, but a source later told Page Six that she has “always been very deliberate about where and how she shows up.”
A spokesperson for the Obamas confirmed that Michelle would not be attending the inauguration on Monday. The View/ABC Barack recently attended former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral solo. Bloomberg via Getty Images“She’s never been fake, and she’s never been phony,” the insider told us. “She doesn’t have to say anything. Her absence speaks volumes.”
Meanwhile, a source in Trump’s inner circle told us Thursday that the incoming president is “having a good laugh” and “didn’t expect her to come anyway.”
Michelle –– who has not been one to shy away for expressing her disdain for Trump –– has been keeping her distance from the President-elect, since she also let Barack attend former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral solo on Jan. 9.
