The Weeknd released his highly anticipated album called, Hurry Up Tomorrow on January 31, and it’s a bop! The album effortlessly blends R&B, techno, and soul genres in its 22 songs.

Did The Weeknd Perform at the Grammys?

The Weeknd has been vocal about boycotting the Grammys for years now. In 2021, he pledged that he would no longer submit his work for the Grammys. He stated: “The trust has been broken for so long between the Grammy organization and artists, that it would be unwise to raise a victory flag. I think the industry and public alike need to see the transparent system truly at play for the win to be celebrated, but it’s an important start. I remain uninterested in being a part of the Grammys, especially with their own admission of corruption for all these decades. I will not be submitting in the future,” according to Variety.

Grammys CEO, Harvey Mason Jr., brought up the boycott prior to introducing the artist’s return performance to the Grammys on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Harvey made a point to lay out all the details regarding what changes have been made to the voting aspect of the show, that led to the callouts by many artists such as The Weeknd over the years.

Harvey candidly stated on stage: “I heard him. I felt his conviction. What we all want is an organization dedicated to the well-being of all music makers, and one that reflects the entire music community for now and for future generations. So, over the past few years, we’ve listened, we have acted, and we’ve changed. There’s still work to be done, but I firmly believe we’re on the right path,” as reported by People.

The change is visible in numbers. More than 13,000 new voting members have been added and the diversity in the participants is also there. There has been a 65% increase in voters who are people of color, and there has been a 27% increase in voters who are women, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
