Arsenal could lose a key member of their squad this summer as the Gunners receive an offer from French club Marseille to sign their attacker.
Mikel Arteta has been slow with his transfer business this summer with the club only making David Raya’s move permanent and signing defender Riccardo Calafiori.
Despite the fact that those two are impressive additions, the Gunners need more addition to add depth to their squad.
They could be in the market for a back up striker soon as Eddie Nketiah could well be on his way out of the club to join French club Marseille.
The French giants have submitted an offer of £17m for the striker, after submitting an incredibly low bid earlier.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has provided information to GiveMeSport about the situation surrounding Nketiah’s potential exit.
He said:
“We do know Marseille are interested [in Nketiah]. Their initial offer a few weeks ago was effectively laughed at by Arsenal. That offer had such a massive gap to Arsenal’s valuation, so big in fact that we didn’t know whether Arsenal were expecting Marseille to come back in.
Eddie Nketiah is heading out of Arsenal this summer.
“The information that I was given was that we were expecting Marseille to go back in, and they have done that. We think the offer that has gone in now is around £17m. Now, that still may not be as much as what Arsenal would want, but it is enough for them to at least continue the conversation.
“So the fact that the two clubs are still talking would imply that there is a possibility that a deal can be done there.”
Nketiah has spent most of his time at the Emirates Stadium on the bench and it is set to stay the same if he remains at the club.
Eddie Nketiah needs to leave Arsenal for a starting role
Both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are ahead of him in the pecking order for the Gunners and instead of another season on the bench, a move away from the club is what he should be looking for.
Marseille can provide him an opportunity to start fresh and in a new project under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Conversations have started between the two clubs after Marseille offered £17m for the player, however, it still remains to be seen if it will be accepted by Arsenal or not.
