When it comes to black ankle boots, I have a bit of a problem.
I currently own more than a dozen different pairs in various materials, heel heights and silhouettes, and style them with everything from dresses to denim. They’re endlessly versatile, and somehow, I keep finding new versions to covet — like The Row’s Zipped Boots ($1,490), which have topped my wish list for the past several years.
So imagine my delight when I discovered a much more affordable alternative to the pricey pair: Steve Madden’s Jones Boots ($130), which are identical to their four-figure designer counterparts in just about every way.

DSWLike The Row’s classic zippered booties — which stars like Taylor Swift, Zoë Kravitz, Dakota Johnson and Sofia Richie wear on repeat — Steve Madden’s are made from durable leather and perched on sturdy rubber platforms, making them suitable for all-weather wear.
They’re also comfortable — we’re talking straight-out-of-the-box, zero-break-in comfortable. I’m a true size 10.5 and sized up to an 11 so I could wear them with thick socks, and they fit perfectly.
And while Steve Madden’s not exactly a luxury label, I was shocked by the buttery soft quality of the leather. These boots look and feel far more expensive than they actually are.

DSWBut don’t just take my word for it; in addition to going viral on TikTok thanks to their striking resemblance to The Row, these boots have earned plenty of rave reviews across the internet.
“I love this boot! It’s chunky, but still looks sleek and is very lightweight,” one customer wrote, similarly advising that shoppers go up a half size.
“I adore these boots! They are extremely comfortable and stylish,” a second echoed.
And a third called them “perfect in every way,” adding, “I always loved The Row boots but thought the price was crazy … I highly recommend these!! Comfortable right out of the box and they zip very easily!”

And should anyone ask you if you’re wearing The Row, well, I won’t tell if you don’t.
