There are all kinds of ways that a wrestler can be put on the injured list but there are very rarely interesting ways to get them back off of it. Adam Cole has been out of action for over a year following an ankle injury last year at AEW Grand Slam. Cole returned earlier this month at AEW WrestleDream and is set to wrestle his first match next week on Dynamite. Cole spoke about his recovery with the Takedown, revealing that the damage was far worse than expected. As a result, Cole was forced to undergo multiple surgeries, including having a bone from a cadaver put into his ankle because Cole’s original bone was completely destroyed. The injury was a freak accident, resulting from Cole jumping from the ramp to the arena floor.

Opinion: Cole’s injury has to be pretty high up on the list of biggest freak accidents in wrestling history with the biggest fallout. To be out of action for over a year and to require the bone from a dead person to be inserted into your body to make things better shows you just how badly things were screwed up. That’s absolutely insane, but what matters the most is that Cole is back in the ring, as it is a very long time in the making.
