After Thibaut Courtois reproached Atlético Madrid a “systematic victimization”, President Enrique Cerezo replied without delay.
The elimination of Atlético Madrid against Real Madrid on Wednesday during the knockout stages of the Champions League, caused a lively controversy. Indeed, the Merengue validated their qualification for the quarterfinals after having triumphed during a penalty shootout (2-1, 0-1, Tab 2-4), during which Julian Alvarez saw his attempt canceled following a consultation of the Var, for having touched the ball twice.
This decision was called into question by the Colchoneros, leading to the reaction of the White Guardian, Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian international has described the reaction of his opponents as “systematic victimization”. Words that have not escaped the ears of the president of Atlético, Enrique Cerezo.
Cerezo's scathing answer
In front of the media, the Madrid leader responded without detour to Courtois: “Courtesy, what he has to do is be silent and staying quiet. It should be grateful to have played Atletico. He is a big goalkeeper but he must do what he was doing with us, that is to say being a man and a gentleman ”, he thundered.
As a reminder, Courtois defended the colors of the Rojiblancos between 2011 and 2014. It was as part of a loan from Chelsea FC.
