The winter transfer window of Randal Kolo Muani was more lively than we thought. While the French striker finally settled in Juventus, he was also in the viewfinder of another large European club, ready to do anything to attach his services. This missed transfer says a lot about the interest that the international tricolor arouses, even after a complicated period in Paris Saint-Germain.
It was only after advanced discussions that we discover that it is AS Roma that wanted to attract Kolo Muani to its ranks. Claudio Ranieri, coach of the Roman club, confirmed this interest at a press conference: “I wanted Kolo Muani, but we had to give up because of his salary. We had budgetary limits, and that's what made the difference. ” Ranieri, who also tried to recruit Kyle Walker, underlined the ambition of his club despite these financial constraints:
“We have set up a fantastic recruitment unit, but sometimes we have to know how to adapt to reality.”
Kolo Muani, a thunderous start to Turin
Finally, it was Juventus that won the bet by obtaining Kolo Muani on loan until the end of the season. An already winning bet: in just 90 minutes in the Bianconero jersey, the French striker scored his first three goals in Serie A, displaying an impressive average of a goal every 57 minutes. He quickly established himself alongside Dusan Vlahovic, Timothy Weah and Kenan Yildiz, silencing the skeptics that doubted his capacities after a mixed passage to PSG.
Turin supporters even begin to see in him a potential successor by David Trezeguet, another legendary French scorer of the club.
A future at Juventus?
The question of the future of Kolo Muani in Turin remains open. Its current loan could lead to a final transfer next June, Juventus considering an option to purchase around 45 million euros, well below 65 million its current value. PSG, for its part, could accept such an agreement to balance its finances while avoiding a capital loss.
It remains to be seen whether Kolo Muani will feel sufficiently fulfilled in Italy to extend this adventure. In view of its promising beginnings, discussions could quickly accelerate between the two clubs.
