Lewis Miley has picked up an injury.
The 18-year-old having suffered a broken metatarsal when turning innocuously during a running drill, earlier this week.
The Northern Echo reports that Lewis Miley is set to be sidelined for around three months.
That, if a correct estimate, would take him up to around the end of September 2024 and it means that if you take it right up to the weekend of Saturday 19 October when Newcastle will face Brighton at home, it would allow over three and a half months recovery.
By then there will only have been seven Premier League matches played by that point, due to a combination of pre-season and the September and October international breaks.
However, far from ideal for Lewis Miley, or indeed any player, to miss the whole of the pre-season programme.
As this is when players are building up their fitness and stamina to put them in the best possible shape for the season ahead.
After Lewis Miley picked up a back injury in March when away with the young England set-up, Eddie Howe decided to allow him total rest and no matches to try and ensure he would be fully fit for pre-season. Very cruel then for those plans to be ruined via this freak injury.
