Vincent Kompany has always came across as one of the good guys.

A very classy player back in the day and off the pitch, a similar story.

A difficult season and a very difficult afternoon in particular today for the Burnley boss.

Vincent Kompany seeing his Burnley side outclassed and thrashed 4-1 in front of their own supporters.

A result which sees them all but relegated, five points adrift of safety and only two games left to play.

Despite obviously feeling absolutely gutted after the final whistle, all credit to Vincent Kompany with his post-match honesty:

“We came up against a good side today.

“We came up against a better team.

“There was no lack of effort from our side, we fought hard.

“We had the opportunity maybe in the first 15 minutes to make use of our momentum a little bit better, but after that, credit to Newcastle for their attacking play.

“Also, credit to my players for the fact that they never gave up.

“They just kept going.

“That’s got to count for something, when you still have a game that can decide things.

“I don’t know if it was a penalty (Assignon throwing himself to the ground with only slight contact from Bruno).

“But in the context of this game, it was not a one-goal decider.

“It was three goals difference.

“So we have to put everything back in place in that sense.

“We played against a better team.

“It is as simple as that.”
