Alex Baena has made a public appeal to FC Barcelona to come and get him.
The Villarreal attacking midfielder has been on fire since the start of the season, with an impressive record of 16 assists and five goals in 41 matches in all competitions.
The versatile 22-year-old, who can also play on the wing, stood out last weekend against Rayo Vallecano by delivering a hat-trick of assists.
“The best team in the world”
After the match, Baena openly expressed his admiration for FC Barcelona, insisting that it would be a dream to play for them, although he eventually backtracked, stating that he was happy at Villarreal. “ Who wouldn’t want to play for Barça? Playing for Barça would be one of my biggest dreams as a footballer, it’s the best team in the world”he told Carrusel.
A torrent of transfer rumors has since followed in the Catalan press and the player has only added fuel to the fire by also confirming that he has a €60m release clause in his contract. However, a transfer to Barcelona makes little sense.
