Thomas Partey prefers to stay at Arsenal in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Ghana international, who was a £45 million signing from Atletico Madrid in 2020, started just nine Premier League games this season, mainly due to injury.

It’s understood that Arsenal are open to selling Partey before the start of next season and are keen to bring in a new midfielder that would enable Declan Rice to play in a more advanced role.

However, Charles Watts reports that Partey is keen to stay at Arsenal and see out the final year of his contract.

It’s also reported that Arsenal have not entered discussions with Partey over a contract extension and that the club are looking to offload him this summer.

After missing Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign earlier this year due to a groin injury, Partey has been recalled to the squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic next month.

Partey has also been confirmed as the team’s captain for the two games by head coach Otto Addo.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have been linked with several central midfielders ahead of the summer window, including Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

Guimaraes, who was a £40m signing from Lyon, has a £100m release clause in his contract with Newcastle which expires at the end of June.
