Three activists arraigned by the Nigeria Police for their alleged participation in the #EndBadGovernance protests, namely Adaramoye Michael “Lenin”, Mosiu Sodiq, and Simon Opaluwa, have regained freedom, following the fulfilment of bail conditions set by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The trio were arrested in August, during the August 1-10 protests, in which young Nigerians demanded an end to bad governance and a reversal of some of the policies of the Tinubu-led administration.

The PUNCH reports that the activists, including seven other protesters were arrested and charged with treason, following which they were arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja.

On September 11 2024, the 10 defendants were granted bail “in the sum of N10m each and one surety in like sum”. The trial judge added that the sureties must be residents in Abuja, and must own properties in Abuja, whose documents are to be deposited to the court registrar, in addition to swearing to affidavit of means.

However, on Thursday, Human Rights activist and Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, confirmed the release of the activists via his official X handle #YeleSowore, adding that the activists had fulfilled the bail conditions set by Justice Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, while also calling for the release of others, including Isaac Bristol, otherwise known as #PidomNigeria.

“Three of our comrades who’ve languished in prison for partaking in the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria revolt have just fulfilled their bail conditions and are out of Kuje prison cells. They are; Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye “Lenin”; Mosiu Sadiq, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon. We eagerly await the final release of others, including Isaac Bristol #PidomNigeria, as soon as possible”.

Similarly, human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed their release, adding that they were working to secure the release of the other defendants.

“Yes, But the others have not been released. We’re still working on others”, he told our correspondent in a short phone call.

As of the time of filing this report, our correspondent was yet to get in touch with any of the released activists, as their contacts were reported switched off.
