An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has remanded three students from the Iseyin College of Health Science and Technology for allegedly causing the death of their 16-year-old colleague, Eniola Ismail.

The defendants, Shodimu Halima, 18; Agbedun Zainab, 23; and Olaleye Oladunni, 23, were remanded on Tuesday by Magistrate M. Mudashiru.

They are facing charges of conspiracy and murder before Magistrate Mudashiru, who presided over the case.

Magistrate Mudashiru did not take their plea due to the court’s lack of jurisdiction.

He ordered that the trio be held at the Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

Earlier, the prosecution, led by Inspector Femi Oluwadare, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired with others, who are still at large, to assault Ismail on July 29, 2024, at about  4 p.m. at the school in Iseyin, Oyo State.

Oluwadare further explained that the students allegedly beat the deceased with their fists during a fight. Ismail reportedly went home after the altercation, complaining of body pains, and later passed away.

According to him, the offences committed contravened Sections 316, 319, and 324 of the Oyo State Criminal Code of 2000.

The case has been adjourned until December 30, 2024, for further mention.
