Thunder Rosa has addressed last week’s controversy with Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford.
Last week on AEW Dynamite, the former AEW Women’s Champion had an awkward moment in the ring. After Megan Bayne beat Kris Statlander in a fantastic match, Thunder Rosa ran out with a chair to protect Statlander from Bayne and Penelope Ford.
However, a miscommunication meant Ford and Bayne stayed in the ring, standing up to Rosa instead of being frightened off.
Thunder Rosa spoke with Busted Open Radio about the incident. She spoke about the mishap last week, emphasising how safety is her number one priority, which is why she refrained from swinging the chair at the two women. She said she learned a lot from the incident and wants to make AEW a better place.
Thunder Rosa: Safety Is Always Number One
“First and foremost, safety has always been my priority at everything that I do at AEW. And sometimes, I just — I sacrifice my safety for other people because I have to make sure that everybody’s safe because of previous situations. For me, and that [safety] is always number one. So, I think it is important for me to say that first. You guys saw what happened and from that, I have learned so much, David. So much.
“The takeaways that I will have to say as a performer are always ask questions. Be sure of what you’re doing in the segment. The segment didn’t go the way we wanted to, and it showed. I honestly couldn’t justify swinging the chair at the moment because it was not safe. And for me, that’s in my head and that’s the decision I made.”
Thunder Rosa said that she is focused on doing things the right way because she wants to make AEW better for fans and talent.
“I have sacrificed my health, I bled for this company, and I will continue to push myself because I want to give the fans the best possible product for those who depend on me and also those who are in the ring with me. Because at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. I love professional wrestling, I love this. I’m not perfect and I’m going to strive to be better and to make the place that I work a better place, and a positive place to work.”
Thunder Rosa went on to say that there’s no drama between herself, Megan Bayne or Penelope Ford. She noted that they talked about what went wrong and smoothed things over.
