A major player in world football is reportedly considering withdrawing from his selection.

The French team is not the only major world nation to have to face a period of transition. Recent opponent of the Blues, Belgium must also rebuild a competitive group. While Eden Hazard has retired and Kevin De Bruyne is no longer as influential, a third big name in this selection could say stop.

Romelu Lukaku has not been called up by coach Domenico Tedesco since the end of Euro 2024 – an elimination at the round of 16 stage against the Blues (0-1). And according to the main person concerned, this situation is heavy.

“I will only come back if I have a good feeling…”

In comments made on the Friends of Sports podcast, the top scorer in Belgian history revealed his truths. “ When Tedesco became a coach and he visited me, I wanted to tell him that I was stopping. But he told me he needed me. I even hesitated again after his first two matches, in Sweden and Germany, but I still said yes“.

“I hope I can rediscover my passion for the Devils. The next goal in the national team is the World Cup, which takes place in two years. It’s a long time. I will only come back if I have a good feeling… In that case, I will return to a leadership role, but you can’t expect me to be happy when you don’t win. In football terms, this group is already very far, but it does not yet have a real winning mentality”. The message got through.
