A new team of antiheroes is preparing to take over the MCU next year, teasing plenty of Avengers-sized action sequences.
Ahead of the film’s May 2, 2025 premiere, Disney and Marvel Studios debuted a new special look at Thunderbolts* during Saturday’s D23 Expo in Brazil, starting with an explosive desert chase scene.
The sneak peek features the titular crew of antiheroes traveling a deserted highway in Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian’s (David Harbour) big red limo when a military convoy begins tailing them and opening fire. As Yelena Bolova/Black Widow (Florence Pugh) hangs out the passenger’s side window to return fire, the humvees are somehow blown to pieces.
Sebastian Stan‘s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier rides through the wreckage on a motorcycle with a much bigger weapon in hand. “That guy’s so cool,” raves Red Guardian, shortly before Bucky stops and shoots up their vehicle with an expolosive.
The scene precedes a new trailer, in which Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine assembles the group at Tony Stark’s Avengers tower, which now belongs to the US government.
“How crazy is it to think of all the monumental fights that happened exactly here where you’re standing,” says Valentina. “I mean, the place wasn’t cheap, but it’s got good optics.”
The trailer also introduces Hannah John-Kamen‘s Ava Starr/Ghost, Wyatt Russell‘s John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko‘s Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster and Lewis Pullman‘s Bob/Sentry.
The latest sneak peek comes amid the MCU’s Phase Five, which includes Captain America: Brave New World and Daredevil: Born Again, as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels and Deadpool & Wolverine. The phase also includes the shows Secret Invasion, Season 2 of Loki, Season 2 of What If…?, Echo, Agatha All Along, Eyes of Wakanda, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Ironheart.
