WWE SmackDown made history on January 3, delivering an unforgettable episode from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. This landmark event marked the debut of the blue brand’s transition to a three-hour format. There were some high-profile things promoted for the show, and a title match was on the card.

The WWE Women’s Championship was on the line as Nia Jax took on Naomi. Fans in Phoenix were excited to see this match go down, as a title change during a big show is always possible. Then again, Tiffany Stratton was also waiting in the wings with her Money in the Bank briefcase.

Tiffany Stratton couldn’t be found backstage before this match. Nia Jax then asked Candice LeRae to look out for Bianca Belair during her match. Jax became WWE Women’s Champion at SummerSlam 2024 when she cashed in her Queen of the Ring win to get that match. Lillian Garcia gave this contest a big-match feel with her introductions.

Naomi, who is a two-time champion in her own right, is also 1/2 of the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. She fought Nia Jax with the crowd behind her, but Jax was a very strong champion.

The Women’s Title match started at the end of the second hour of this week’s show. Fans in Phoenix were ready to watch history go down on the USA Network. There were several near falls in this match as Nia Jax and Naomi traded close two counts.

Then, when Naomi hit a move off the top rope, Tiffany Stratton made her way to the ring with the Money in the Bank briefcase. She went to cash in, but instead, she blasted Naomi with the briefcase and then Nia pulled off the win.

It turns out that Tiffany Stratton used her Money in the Bank briefcase cash-in as a diversion to help Nia Jax. Then out of the blue, Tiffany Stratton took Candice LeRae out with the briefcase as Bianca Belair nailed Nia Jax with her finisher. Tiffany hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever and won the title.

It’s now Tiffy Time, and they let out a ton of pyro as Stratton celebrated. Now, SmackDown is going into a new era with Tiffany Stratton as champion.
