During the January 10 episode of SmackDown at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, a match took place to determine the top contender for the WWE Women’s Title. Naturally, everyone on the roster wants that opportunity, but only four had a chance to battle for a shot at the gold.
A #1 contender match was booked this week with Bayley, Bianca Belair, Naomi, and Nia Jax. All of those women have held Women’s Title gold in WWE before, but Nia Jax just lost her title, and she had even more motivation to end Tiffy Time.
This was a back-and-forth contest, with everyone getting close to securing the win. At one point, Naomi and Bianca Belair worked together to slap Nia Jax and Bayley off the top rope. Then they cut to commercial break after that without picture-in-picture.
When we got back from commercial break, Bianca Belair and Naomi had a chance to square off, but they decided to nail suicide dives on their opponents instead. In the end, Bayley got the win with a Rose Plant after Candice LeRae caused trouble on the outside of the ring with interference that did Nia Jax no help at all.
This all started when Nia Jax interrupted Tiffany Stratton’s championship celebration, using explicit language in the process. Bayley followed with a microphone in hand, and declared her intent to challenge for the title as well.
Naomi showed up next and also demanded a title opportunity. Her Women’s Tag Team Championship partner, Bianca Belair, was also with her. The tensions quickly escalated, leading to a brawl between all four of them.
Tiffany Stratton is the champion after successfully cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase during the January 3 episode of SmackDown. Now she has her first challenger.
