5 TikTok faves Matt and Abby Howard are facing serious backlash over their latest parenting choice!
On her Instagram Stories over the weekend, mom-of-two Abby posted about their recent family vacation on a cruise. The parents brought along their two toddlers — Griffin, 2, and August, 1 — but it turns out that may not have been the best plan. According to the 25-year-old’s post, the babies weren’t liking the 5-day long excursion. They probably were just upset it wasn’t as star-studded as the RFK anti-vax cruise with Zachary Levi, right? (Remember that???)

LOLz! In all seriousness, a cruise costs a lot of money, even if Drea De Matteo isn’t there. So the parents still wanted to get some fun out of it — and decided to have a date night without the kiddos. Maybe you can see where this is going…

In the now-expired post, she explained how the pair didn’t use a baby monitor when leaving their kiddos alone in their room, but instead just FaceTimed them to monitor the situation while they were across the boat getting dinner. She captioned a photo of her phone:
“So we ended up taking them for 5 nights and it became apparent that they weren’t enjoying it and therefore we weren’t either. So THEN we switched our dinner time to AFTER their bedtime and FaceTimed the monitors while we ate. And that worked out muchhh better for everyone! :)”
She also added in parentheses:
“(Baby monitors don’t work on board unless you’re like 10 feet away.)”

A unique solution to the situation? Well… Fans were quick to call the pair out for their ingenuity — which many saw as “negligent” parenting:
“Matt and Abby leaving their two children (2 and 1 yo) in SEPARATE rooms ALONE on a cruise to get dinner seriously irritates me. No matter what their perspective is on this matter I just don’t understand how you be so negligent to your kids!!”
“I’ve never been a fan of Matt and Abby but them leaving their infant and toddler alone in different rooms while they were at dinner on a cruise and face timed the monitors is my breaking point. Trash.”
“As usual, parents don’t adjust their lifestyles to having kids, they attempt to make their kids adjust to the parents lifestyle.”
“Matt & Abby leaving their kids in their rooms while going to dinner on a cruise AND SHARING ABOUT IT TO THEIR AUDIENCE is freaking crazy.”
“Do these 2 NOT remember Madeleine McCann???? Who leaves their sleeping babies ALONE in a room so you can go enjoy dinner???”
VERY good point! These are some seriously tiny babies who still depend wholly on mom and dad! Anything could’ve happened that room, and who knows if just being on FaceTime would’ve given them enough warning before it was too late. Sure, there’s Madeleine McCann, as mentioned, who disappeared. And not just in the room. Remember that producer who died while having dinner just down the street from where he left his kids alone? His wife was arrested for child endangerment for going with him to the hospital!
