Governor Tim Walz and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez watched a live stream of Donald Trump‘s Madison Square Garden rally together on Sunday (October 27), and they reacted to one incendiary moment that is going viral. One of the speakers at the rally, Tony Hinchcliffe, made mention of a “floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.” Keep reading to find out more… After this statement was made, the Governor responded, “Who is that jack-wad? Who is that guy?” “People in Puerto Rico are citizens. They pay tax and they serve in the military at almost a higher rate than anybody else,” he shared. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez responded, “Obviously, it’s super upsetting to me. I need people to understand that when you have some a-hole calling Puerto Rico floating garbage, know that that’s what they think about you.” Later, when Hinchcliffe saw how the Governor and Representative responded, he took to X to share his thoughts. He said, in part, “These people have no sense of humor. Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his ‘busy schedule’ to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist. I love Puerto Rico and vacation there.” Hinchcliffe is receiving extreme backlash for what he said.
