President Bola Tinubu has ordered that sufficient security measures be put in place for personnel to ensure the prompt restoration of power supply to the northern region of Nigeria.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated this while addressing State House correspondents after a meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja on Monday.

Adelabu stated that a faulty transmission line was responsible for the power outage in the North, adding that fixing such damage should not take more than three to five days. He noted that the delay in the repairs was due to insecurity in the affected area.

The minister, however, disclosed that Tinubu had instructed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and all other relevant security agencies to implement measures to allow personnel to effect the repairs.

He said, “Fixing a transmission line should take three to five days, assuming you work under standard temperature and pressure and there are no security threats, ensuring your safety in the area.

“Why it has escalated to this level is that we have not been able to guarantee the security of the lives of those who will work, but Mr. President has assured me that he has also instructed the NSA, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff to provide the required security for those who will fix the damaged line.”

PUNCH Online reports that a power outage affecting areas in the Northeast, Northwest, and parts of North-Central occurred after insurgents vandalised the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.

The vandalism has led to blackouts in Kaduna, Kano, and other major cities in the North.
