Tinubu to receive Edo governorship election results from Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio will present the official results of the just concluded Edo governorship election to President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking with reporters in Benin City on Monday, the Senate President disclosed that he would personally tender the results to Tinubu upon his return to Abuja.

Akpabio stated that he was handed the results sheet by the Edo State APC Chairman, Jeret Tenebe, following the victory of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Monday Okpebholo, who was declared Governor-elect.

He said, “I was presented with a copy of the results sheet by the Edo State chairman, Jeret Tenebe, shortly before my departure to Abuja. This will be transmitted to our party leader and President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”

On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, as the winner of the keenly contested poll.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Faruq Adamu Kuta, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Benin City.

Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, winning eleven out of the 18 Local Government Areas in the state, while Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party secured 247,274, winning seven LGs.

Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party came a distant third with 22,761 votes.
