Chelsea have reportedly emerged as contenders to sign wantaway Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

That’s according to a recent report from TBR Football, who claims the Blues are prepared to alter their transfer strategy to rival West Ham for the striker’s signature.

Set to leave Brentford after four years, Toney, 28, has just 12 months left on his contract, and will now be preparing for a new challenge.

And while the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs have all distanced themselves from a summer transfer, Chelsea appear eager to capitalise.

Ivan Toney to Chelsea?

Understood to be willing to deviate from his usual under-25 players-only transfer policy, US billionaire owner Todd Boehly could sanction a move for Brentford’s number 17 to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s attacking line.

The Blues will face competition from London rivals West Ham United though. The Hammers are also in the running to sign the former Peterborough hitman.

Since joining the Bees in 2020, Toney, who has two senior international caps for England to his name, has scored 72 goals in 138 games in all competitions.
