EXCLUSIVE: Monument Releasing and Visit Films have teamed with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York to produce a 4K restoration of Todd Solondz’s 2004 feature Palindromes.
The 4K restoration has been organized to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary. The restored version — produced in conjunction with MoMA — will be released digitally on the 20th of May 2025.
The film will also be available for theatrical bookings before the digital release date via Monument Releasing in North America. Visit Films will represent Palindromes for international sales. Radiance will handle the UK release, Filmin will release digitally in Spain, and Nonstop Entertainment will distribute the film in Scandinavia.
Palindromes stars Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Matthew Faber (Welcome to the Dollhouse), Valerie Shusterov, Hannah Freiman (Frontrunners), Emani Sledge, and Bill Buell (Welcome to the Dollhouse).
Solondz’s fifth feature, the film follows thirteen-year-old Aviva Victor who longs for a love that always seems to elude her. She runs away from home on a quest that takes her to places she never knew existed outside her insular world and into the expanses of her heart.
Discussing today’s news, Solondz said: “I’m very grateful to Visit Films and Monument Releasing for restoring what I once thought unreleasable.”
Visit Films president Ryan Kampe said: “It was a crime to cinema that this film wasn’t available. Thank you to MoMA for the collaboration on digitizing this masterpiece in 4K”.
