Tom Holland opened up about his sobriety in a new interview.

The 28-year-old Spider-Man actor hasn’t consumed alcohol in more than two years. In October 2024, he launched a nonalcoholic beer line called Bero.

During a conversation with Men’s Health, Tom spoke candidly about his journey and revealed two times when he contemplated drinking again. One of those times involved experiences with “animosity” on set.

He also spoke about his decision to launch Bero and some of the challenges that came with the beverage line.

“Every Friday after work was a write-off: Let’s get drunk and have a good time. I didn’t have bad experiences, but I would drink enough so that I would ruin my next day,” Tom told the outlet, recalling “an enlightening conversation with his doctor about his liver.”

While his first few months were challenging, Tom made it through without any outside professional help.

“I’m quite strong-willed. When I decide to do something, I’m really gonna do it,” he said. “I leaned on close ones a lot: family, friends, old colleagues, new colleagues, people that reached out that I didn’t know who also were sober.”

However, he added that he considered drinking again while celebrating his 26th birthday, which he opted out of doing.

Tom also realized that he would face challenges if he decided to drink again while working on his show The Crowded Room.

“There was quite a lot of animosity on that set. It was not a very harmonious place, and there was a lot of arguing and butting heads,” he recalled. “I thought, If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it’s gonna get worse, right?”

While he said that he had the support of his friends, even though they were “big drinkers,” Tom added that he wanted to be able to drink a nonalcoholic beverage at the bar. This led to his decision to create Bero.

“You can’t sing this song and then not walk the walk,” he said, acknowledging nerves about the project. “I think part of me, when I announced it, I almost felt vindicated or relieved.”

Elsewhere in the interview Tom addressed his plans to retire from acting.
