Toni Storm looks forward to facing Mariah May at AEW Grand Slam Australia.

The “rookie” shocked the world by winning the Casino Gauntlet match at AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage on Wednesday. Storm, a former AEW Women’s Champion, rolled up Julia Hart to earn a shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship.

She will face Mariah Maria at AEW Grand Slam Australia. The event will take place in Australia, where Toni Storm grew up. The former champion will be aiming to get a measure of revenge against May, who took the AEW Women’s Championship from her at AEW All In last year.

Speaking with Rick Ucchino for The Takedown On SI, Toni Storm called the victory “the biggest deal of her life”. She noted that she couldn’t believe she won the Casino Gauntlet and earned a title shot in Australia next month.

“I saw my opportunity and I went for it,” Storm said. “I can’t believe I got the win. And this means I’m gonna be able to go to Australia and wrestle for my fellow countrymen and my family. This is the biggest deal of my life.”

“The costume that I wore [Wednesday on Dynamite] actually, my mom made that,” Storm said proudly. “She’s just been dying to make me a costume for Grand Slam. And now I can finally call home, when when she wakes up because of the time difference. I can call her and be like, ‘Mom, I did it. I won! Can’t believe it. Get your sewing machine out!'”

Toni Storm: Mariah May Is The Real Deal

It’s not just wrestling in Australia that Toni Storm is excited about, but also facing off with Mariah May for what she thinks is the first time ever. Storm has suffered some storyline memory loss since AEW All In, but she knows that Mariah May is one of the best in the business.

“Best in the business today. She’s the real deal. I’m not gonna lie, I’m super intimidated,” Toni Storm said about Mariah May. “I hope I get an opportunity to show some respect.

“I hope she doesn’t think I’m rude for not coming and saying hello,” Storm continued. “I’ve never really met a star so big before and I’m just such a huge fan of her work. I’ve seen stuff she’s done since Stardom. I mean, it’s just insane. I just wanna be like her, I wanna follow in her footsteps.”
