The high stakes could not have been higher than ever for both Carmelo Hayes and Tony D’ Angelo as they collided against each other in the main event of tonight’s edition of WWE NXT Roadblock.
The match was set in stone after Tony inserted himself in the heated rivalry between Hayes and the reigning NXT champion, Ilja Dragunov. D’Angelo interrupted a contract signing for a title match at NXT Stand and Deliver 2024 between the duo, throwing his name in the hat too for the opportunity.
This led to the bout between Carmelo Hayes and Tony D’Angelo being made official last week for WWE NXT Roadblock tonight with the winner heading to Stand and Deliver event for a title bout against the Mad Dragon himself.
Both men threw every punch, every move, and every ounce of energy in their arsenal at each other in their match on tonight’s show as a major opportunity hung in the balance.
Just as it was looking like Carmelo Hayes was headed towards his second straight championship bout in a row at Stand and Deliver, Melo’s old ally, Trick Williams’ entrance music began playing, but he did not appear.
The distraction gave Tony D’Angelo enough time to capitalize and plant Hayes onto the mat with a thunderous move to secure the win and a chance to battle Ilja Dragunov at Stand and Deliver.
However, Hayes’ night turned from bad to worse right after as Trick Williams did indeed make his return after being put out of action by his former friend, launching an attack on Carmelo, making it clear that business was just picking up between the duo.
What are your thoughts on Tony D’Angelo becoming the No.1 contender for Ilja Dragunov’s NXT Championship? Is Trick Williams’ involvement a major part leading to his victory? Sound off in the comments!
