AEW has come quite far since its debut back in 2019 as they have grown leaps and bounds in numerous avenues, but there is still a lot of room for improvement for the company. Interestingly enough, Tony Khan has also addressed potentially working with WWE in the future.
Since AEW’s launch in 2019, the company has established strong partnerships with NJPW and other promotions. Recently, AEW has begun collaborating with CMLL and STARDOM. However, there has been limited cooperation between AEW and WWE, apart from a few minor instances.
According to a report by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, sources close to WWE President Nick Khan have indicated that one of the company’s potential plans is to explore collaborations with other wrestling promotions. Barrasso highlighted that Khan approved Triple H’s decision to partner with TNA in order to bring Jordynne Grace into the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble.
In an interview with Liam Crowley of ComicBook.com, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about reports suggesting that WWE was open to collaborations. Crowley inquired whether AEW would be open to working with WWE in potential collaborations, such as sharing talent or promotions. Tony Khan noted that working with WWE would depend on the circumstances.
”It’s an interesting thought. It would depend on the circumstance.”
AEW wrestlers Bryan Danielson, Chris Jericho, and Paul Wight were reported to have submitted videos for WWE’s John Cena anniversary show in June 2022. Prior to that, AEW’s Billy Gunn made an appearance during the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in 2019 when D-Generation X was inducted. We’ll have to see if AEW and WWE will ever work together properly somewhere down the line.
