Tony Khan and Shane McMahon are exploring the possibilities of a working relationship.
The pair had a “private meeting” this week, according to a new report from Fightful and WrestleTalk.
A photo of the pair was also circulated with the report, showing them meeting in an office. Fightful (via Fightful Select) provided more details about the meeting, noting that Khan and McMahon met to discuss “possibilities moving forward.” The meeting took place on July 29 at an office at a private Arlington airport.
It was noted that Khan has been open to talking with McMahon for some time, even before the recent rumors about the later potential joining AEW surfaced. It’s believed that the pair had never met or spoken prior to those rumors emerging online. Tony Khan had been on record as saying this as well. According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Khan has expressed being open to using McMahon when others have brought it up to him backstage in AEW.
Shane McMahon to AEW rumor timeline
AdFreeShows.com’s Conrad Thompson first mentioned he heard McMahon had sent out feelers to AEW in June.
Tony Khan commented on those rumors during an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. Khan said they’d never met, but he welcomed Shane in AEW.
“I heard the rumor he might be interested,” Tony Khan said. “I’ve never met Shane, but we have a lot of mutual friends. I have a lot of respect for him as an executive and a professional wrestler. Shane is always welcome in AEW.”
Shane McMahon has not been seen in WWE since WrestleMania 39. Fightful confirmed with WWE in June that McMahon was not under any contract with WWE as of that writing.
