Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed that the club will decide the future of Timo Werner at the end of the season.

Werner joined the Premier League club on loan in the January transfer window from German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.

The German attacker played for Chelsea for two seasons and helped the club win the Champions League.

However, he failed to fully shine for Tottenham’s rivals and moved back to Germany.

In January this year, Spurs were offered the opportunity to sign the attacker on a loan deal.

They went ahead with the move and have an opportunity to make the signing permanent for around £15million.

Postecoglou was asked about the future of Werner at Tottenham, he said, as reported by The Athletic:

“Post-season. And the only reason for that is that it’s not about the here and now, it’s about the overall strategy.”

“Timo we signed until the end of the season on loan and he’s part of that strategy to see what we need to do in the summer and can we do it? Are there going to be other gaps and where does Timo fit in with that strategy? So we have a plan in place, and that was irrespective.”

Werner has provided the Spurs attack a new dimension by offering depth and quality to the team.

Timo Werner in action for Tottenham

He has helped the North London club by scoring twice and providing three assists in 14 appearances.

Werner suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 3-2 loss against Arsenal at home.

If Spurs do not decide to take up the option of signing him on a permanentl deal, then he has already played his last game for the club.

The Tottenham boss has praised the impact Werner has made since joining the club.

“I think he’s been very good for us,” said Postecoglou.

“He came in at a really important time in January when Sonny was away, then Richy (Richarlison) got an injury.

“Him coming in was very helpful for us and I think he’s made an impact but in my mind to make those definitive decisions, I still need some clarity about what we’ve got here first.”

Tottenham should consider signing Werner

Signing Werner for £15million should be a no-brainer for Tottenham.

The German attacker provides them pace, depth and quality which is difficult to find for that amount in the current market.

Werner’s versatility will help the club in rotating him and using him in different positions.
