Anthony Martial is closing in on his final two months as a Manchester United player, after which he’ll pull the curtains on a nine-year stint with the club.
It remains to be seen if the forward will feature again before his contract expires in June, as his last outing came on December 9 in a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
In January, United announced that he had undergone successful surgery on a groin complaint and would be ruled out of action for the subsequent 10 weeks while he recovers, though he has yet to make a matchday squad since then.
When Martial does bid farewell to Old Trafford, his Red Devils career will unfortunately be remembered as one that failed to meet the expectations. He’s had some of the most torrid luck on the injury front that you’ll see in football; the last time he completed a full 90 minutes in the Premier League was in January 2021.
As such, you’d have maybe thought that the Frenchman might struggle to find his next suitor, especially in England, where clubs have been well aware of his unavailability issues over the past years.
Martial could remain in the Premier League
Yet, Tuttosport claims that Tottenham Hotspur are emerging as candidates to snap up the soon-to-be free agent. Martial is thought to be demanding wages of around £100,000 per week, and Spurs are reportedly waiting to find out their European fate for next season as they vie with Aston Villa for the fourth Champions League spot.
Martial, 28, joined on an initial £36 million deal from Monaco in 2015. Three add-ons worth £7.2m each were included in his terms, but only one was ever met, meaning United paid a total of £43.2m for his services.
