Tottenham are keen on signing Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis during the summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, the North London outfit have the option to sign the player permanently for a fee of around €25 million (£21m) and they are planning to trigger his buyout clause.

Spurs secured a first refusal on the United States international when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis. It remains to be seen whether they can get the deal across the line.

Cardoso has shown his quality in La Liga and he will add some much-needed depth and quality to the Tottenham midfield. Spurs need more quality at their disposal if they want to challenge for major trophies.

The 23-year-old has the physicality and technical attributes to succeed at Spurs. He will help them tighten up at the back and break down the opposition’s attacking moves.

The 23-year-old midfielder is still quite young, and he will improve with coaching and experience. He could develop into a key player for Tottenham with the right guidance. The reported asking price seems quite reasonable for a player of his potential and the move to be a major bargain if Tottenham can get the deal across the line.

Negotiating a deal with his club is not on the agenda anymore, but Spurs will still need to convince the player of the move. It remains to be seen how the situation develops. They have an attractive project and a talented squad. The United States International could be attracted to the idea of playing for them.

Multiple other clubs are keen on securing his signature as well, but Tottenham clearly have an advantage because of their agreement with the Spanish outfit. They have made it their priority to sign a quality defensive midfielder in the summer and the 23-year-old seems like the ideal fit for them.
