Tottenham Hotspur are expected to improve their midfield department at the end of the season.
Journalist Alasdair Gold believes that Spurs will look to bring in a quality defensive midfielder but the recruitment could be data-driven and they could surprise fans with their choice of signing.
He said on the Gold and Guest Talk podcast: “I feel like maybe that number six role will be more of a data-based one that people are surprised by and it comes from left field, we will see.”
They have been linked with players like Ederson dos Santos from Atalanta and it remains to be seen who they end up signing. The Brazilian has been very impressive for the Italian outfit in Serie A as well as the Europa League.
It is no secret that Tottenham will have to add more quality and depth to the side. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the club and they need to bring in a replacement for the Denmark international.
Signing a quality midfielder will be one of their priorities.

Tottenham have done well to improve their squad with quality additions this season and it remains to be seen whether they can secure Champions League qualification. If they can bring in the right additions during the summer transfer window, there is no reason why they cannot push for trophies next year.
Tottenham have the bones of a very good squad and with some depth next year, they will be hoping to end their prolonged wait for a trophy.
They have impressed with their playing style under Ange Postecoglou this season and the fans will be hoping that they can build on it next year. Tottenham have not won a major trophy in quite some time, and the Australian manager will be expected to end their wait.
