Barcelona have a number of talented young footballers within their ranks currently, with several already becoming a part of the senior setup.
Others, like a certain Mikayil Faye, are knocking on the doors of the first-team roster. The 19-year-old defender joined Barça only last summer, arriving from NK Kustosija.
Faye signed a four-year contract with Barcelona when he joined, with the deal containing a €400 million release clause.
Faye has become a regular fixture in the starting lineup for Barça Atletic under Rafa Marquez and was even in the first-team matchday squad last weekend against RCD Mallorca.
The 19-year-old is now on the cusp of receiving a call-up to the Senegal national team for the upcoming international break.
Barcelona licking their lips as Faye attracts Tottenham interest
Now, SPORT is reporting that Barcelona are licking their lips thanks to the progress made by Mikayil Faye, for he is attracting strong interest from several quarters.
Even though he has not made his official senior debut for Barça, the 19-year-old’s value has shot up and a number of clubs across Europe are looking at him.
And one such club that happen to be tracking Mika Faye currently are Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are building an exciting project under Ange Postecoglou and are said to be following the 19-year-old Barcelona defender as a possible target for the summer.
Meanwhile, closer to home, Faye is also on the radars of Girona while OGC Nice and RC Lens from Ligue 1 are also interested and have even contacted his entourage.
Barça could sell Faye
While Faye has shown the potential to be a first-team player, the number of centre-backs already in the squad makes it difficult for him to break into the team.
Barcelona, for their part, are sure that Faye has to play for a first-division team next season. What they need to decide is whether to keep him at the club, send him on loan with an option to buy, or sell him with a repurchase clause.
Deco has a big task on his hands and the sporting director knows that he will have to sell two or three central defenders for the next season.
Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi are set to be the club’s bets, with Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Inigo Martinez also present.
Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet will return from loan but are likely to be sold off. Meanwhile, Barça are also considering re-signing Chadi Riad. This leaves Faye in a difficult position and it remains to be seen what the Catalans do with him.
