According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Athletic Bilbao player and target for Arsenal, Nico Williams, this summer.
The 21-year-old, who went through the Spanish team’s development program, has recently established himself as a crucial member of the starting eleven for the Lions.
The young player’s impressive La Liga achievements seem to have caught the attention of major European teams, including Spurs, who have expressed interest in signing him.
TEAMtalk reports that Spurs are “keen” on adding Williams to their front line and are prepared to spend heavily in the forthcoming transfer window to aid Ange Postecoglou in rebuilding the team.
The youngster just signed a new long-term deal, but the story goes on to say that he is quite likely to depart Athletic Bilbao this summer. Williams’ current deal includes a £43 million release clause, according to TEAMtalk, which should allow Spurs to pay a fair price for his services.
But according to the report, Arsenal are also interested in signing him, while Bayern Munich and Chelsea are reportedly planning a raid for him as well.
Spurs will thus have to contend with strong opposition from their competitors to complete any possible deal involving the Spaniard.
To help Bukayo Saka, the Gunners are trying to recruit a new forward. Pedro Neto, Michael Olise, and Raphinha are a few of the names that have been floated as potential targets for Mikel Arteta’s side. But they are also keeping an eye on Williams.
The Spaniard would be a huge coup for Arsenal or Tottenham if they were to sign him because he is seen to be one of the top talents in La Liga. In the event that Arsenal and Tottenham compete for Williams’ signature this summer, it will be intriguing to watch who prevails in the end.
