Popular on-air personality and hype-man, Kayode Oladotun, popularly known as Do2dtun has called on media practitioners to embrace digital transformation, stating that artificial intelligence and technological advancements would redefine the industry.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Do2dtun said, “It’s necessary that all radio stations need to start thinking digitally now because we’re moving forward. In the next five, or six years, we’re talking about AIs doing things that human beings do.
Do2dtun who was a radio presenter for two decades reflected on the changes he has witnessed and the urgent need for transition.
“I’m moving on to all the bigger things, but I want everybody who’s in that business to think, that I was one of the people who told the stories of how we move and transition into the next level.
“For the Federal Government, I think radio stations or the media, in general, face too many stringent checks and balances. You cannot be as expressive as you should be. I think it should be a bit freer than what it is now.
“Everybody wants to be more expressive. Some opinions are great, some are bad, to be honest. But that’s why people have decided to move into that part of the media space where it’s uncontrolled, which sometimes is dangerous.”
Speaking further on whether streaming and social media have overtaken radio, he said, “Nigeria is a very peculiar country. We still dwell on traditional media. However, you don’t have time to watch TV or listen to the radio every time. The easiest way to get information is on your phone. There’s WhatsApp now, everybody’s chatting on apps.
“We’re moving forward. Transitioning will happen, and then you’ll be left behind. Traditional media is great, it works magic. But if you’re in print, radio, or TV; start doing things digitally. You can have both—it works. If this goes, this ends. AI is coming to take over, whether you like it or not.”
