Earlier this week, Barcelona finally decided to continue with Xavi Hernandez as the head coach next season, putting an end to months of speculations.
During this period, Barça were linked to a slew of top managers across Europe, including Hansi Flick, who was one of the frontrunners in the race to replace Xavi next season.
In the most recent episode of Fabrizio Romano’s Here We Go podcast, the Italian transfer expert has shed more light on the Hansi Flick matter.
Flick was waiting for Barça
Romano reveals that Flick has been waiting patiently for Barcelona ever since he emerged as one of the candidates to replace Xavi next season.
Although the German’s inability to speak Spanish or English was proving to be a negative factor for Barça, Flick was studying Barcelona closely.

Never an option for Barcelona
However, despite all of Flick’s efforts, he was truly never close to replacing Xavi at Barcelona, Romano adds.
It seems Barça had never really considered the idea of hiring Flick, as their primary focus was to convince Xavi to reverse his decision.
That is why there was no agreement or talks between Barcelona and Hansi Flick, who remains without a job since leaving the German national team.
One would expect Flick to try and find a new challenge elsewhere in the coming summer. After all, there should be no shortage of managerial jobs, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool and AC Milan likely to look for new managers at the end of the season.
