Crystal Palace will reportedly make a move for Chelsea fringe player Trevoh Chalobah if Marc Guehi is sold to Newcastle United.

Guehi appears to be edging closer to a shock £60million move to St. James’ Park, in what would be a real coup for the Magpies.

The centre-back was arguably England’s best player as they reached the final of Euro 2024 and had attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

They were put off by Palace’s high valuation of the 24-year-old, who returned tofirst-team training at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, but Newcastle were not.

Chelsea are set to bank a significant amount if and when the transfer is completed and could yet earn more with The Telegraph reporting that the Eagles are interested in Chalobah as a potential Guehi replacement.

The defender is fully expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer having been left out of the Blues’ pre-season tour of the USA in order to secure a transfer elsewhere.

The likes of Manchester United and Tottenham have been linked with the 25-year-old in the past, who has made 80 appearances for his boyhood club over the past three seasons.

In addition, it is said that Chelsea are holding firm on their £25m valuation of Chalobah who still has four years left to run on his contract.

As well as the Englishman, Palace are also looking at Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix who previously played under manager Oliver Glasner.

The Eagles have already signed one left-sided centre-back this summer in the form of Riad Chadi, though it is thought that the 21-year-old was intended to be a replacement in the longer not immediate term.

Of course, Palace are still hoping they can convince Guehi to stay in south London as the club look to build on their strong finish to last season and qualify for Europe for the first time in their history.
