Trick Williams earned a rematch for the NXT Championship.
In recent weeks, Trick Williams has been feuding with Pete Dunne. Dunne beat Williams at NXT Great American Bash. Their rivalry continued to heat up over the next few weeks. They clashed again on the September 3 episode of NXT, where they fought to a double count-out.
It all came to a head on the September 10 episode of NXT, where they clashed in a Last Man Standing Match where the winner would earn a shot at the NXT Championship. Williams and Dunne waged war and used plenty of weapons to punish each other. In the closing minutes, Williams and Dunne went off a platform and through some tables below with a Russian Legsweep.
Both men struggled to get back to their feet. NXT Champion Ethan Page came down and tried to interfere, but Williams sent him through a broadcast table. Williams got back to his feet, and he was declared the winner. As a result, he will challenge Page for the title on the October 1 episode of NXT, which will mark the CW premiere.
Page previously won the title by defeating Williams in a four-way match at NXT Heatwave.
