WWE brought a big show for their NXT brand on January 21, and they had a few good reasons for fans to tune in. That included Oba Femi putting his NXT Title on the line.

Oba Femi has been on fire since winning the title. He did so by toppling Trick Williams at NXT New Year’s Evil. To nobody’s surprise, he got off to a quick start as champion.

Oba Femi was blindsided by Eddy Thorpe during the January 14 episode of NXT. That helped set the stage for this match, because it was obvious that Femi had a reason to come at Thorpe with guns blazing.

The NXT Title match was the main event of the show this week. The contest also received a big match feel thanks to the ring introductions from Mike Rome. Oba Femi took the fight to Eddy Thorpe right away as the challenger bumped around the ring.

Oba Femi continued his attack on Eddy Thorpe throughout a commercial break, which included Thorpe taking a spear. Then Thorpe returned fire with a stunner to get out of a tough spot, and he climbed up the turnbuckle to land a top rope move to continue the match.

Eddy Thorpe nailed a snap German Suplex, and then he went for another one, but Oba Femi caught him for a chokeslam for a near fall. They continued on, with Thrope nailing a shotgun dropkick, but then Femi caught him again to land a slam. Then Femi landed a Fall From Grace to retain his title with a clean pinfall.

After Femi won the match, he looked up at A-Town Down, as he will be a guest on the Grayson Waller Effect next week. Trick Williams will take on Wes Lee. Then he turned around the Trick Williams was standing there. Williams nailed a knee to Thorpe, and then he stood up to Oba Femi once again to make it clear that he wants his title back.

What’s your take on Oba Femi’s reign in NXT? Is he really the ruler of the brand? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
