Triple H looks back on a recently scary situation involving Damian Priest.

Amidst his World Heavyweight Championship title defense at WWE Clash at the Castle, Damian Priest attempted to nail his opponent, Drew McIntyre, with an over-the-top-rope dive. Unfortunately for Priest, he instead found himself dangling from the ropes by his foot.

On a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque recalled Priest’s precarious position, which many feared would result in an injury. Luckily, despite his ankle initially feeling like “trash,” Priest emerged from the entanglement virtually unscathed.

Totally fine

“Damian Priest goes to do a dive over the top rope, just slips like probably quarter inch, half inch, foot slips off the rope, his ankle gets caught up in the top rope, and in one move he is hanging upside down by one leg. Looked like he killed himself. Looked like everything tore, the joint snapped, and all this stuff,” Levesque recalled. “We have communication with the referees and everything like that, and now they’re trying to figure out how to get them out of there.”

“When you see that, that’s live. I’m like ‘Oh my God, show’s over. We’re going to have to get him out of there, stretcher him out.’ My wheels are immediately spinning about where we go with this. We ask is he okay, and then a few seconds later, he says he’s fine. I’m like ‘There’s no way he is fine.’ We ask again, he says he’s fine. He gets up and I can see him and he’s adamant that he is totally fine. I’m like, ‘Okay,’ so we’re going to watch. I’m thinking maybe [Priest is running on] adrenaline here, but he turned out he was totally fine.”

What’s next?

Following his win over McIntyre at Clash at the Castle, Damian Priest spoke with the press and said he believed he would be fine, despite not feeling great immediately after the match.

“I mean, it feels like trash right now. I didn’t even go to medical yet so I could do this and talk to you and answer your questions, so you’re all welcome,” Priest said after his title defense against McIntyre. “Docs will check it out but I ain’t going anywhere. I was able to beat Drew McIntyre on one foot, so I’m pretty sure I’m good to go.”

Priest now looks ahead to Money in the Bank. There, he will defend the World Heavyweight title against a returning Seth Rollins.
