Trump Joins TikTok After Trying To Ban It While President

Four years after unsuccessfully trying to to ban TikTok while president, Donald Trump joined the Chinese owned social media platform this weekend, amassing 3 million followers in less than 24 hours.

In 2020, Trump tried to shut down the platform in the U.S. by executive order, a move that was later blocked by a federal court. President Joe Biden recently signed a baill that gives ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, nine months to sell the app or face a ban in the U.S. ByteDance is challenging the law in court.

Trump’s first post to the platform was a montage of him attending a UFC match in New Jersey over the weekend. As of this writing, the post had more than 56 million views.

Biden joined TikTok in February and has about 340,000 followers. His first post on the app garnered 10 million views.

The GOP candidate for president was on Friday convicted on 34 felony counts related to the falsification of business records in order to hide hush money payments to a porn star in the days leading up to the 2016 election.
