Trump’s Army of Online Losers Keep Making Everything Weird

Donald Trump and his army of racist, neo-fascist followers are weird. That’s been true for a very long time, but it’s finally front and center in the 2024 presidential race. And Trump supporters online don’t know quite what to do with the allegations aside from just getting more and more weird.

President Joe Biden officially dropped out of the presidential race two weeks ago and Vice President Kamala Harris has stepped in to replace him as the presumptive Democratic nominee, dramatically shifting the mood of the 2024 contest. During that quick transition, Dems started plainly pointing out just how weird Trump Republicans can be. Whether it’s Trump’s VP candidate JD Vance claiming that childless people “sociopaths” or it’s Trump himself constantly groping and kissing the American flag, these people are just objectively weird.

And highlighting the inherent weirdness of this extreme-right campaign is a deep bench of the weirdest idiots on the planet, insisting that actually it’s Harris and her supporters who are the weird ones. For example, there’s Roger Stone, the former Trump advisor and professional dirty-tricks rat-fucker who was pardoned by the 45th president before he left office. What’s he up to over on X?

Oh. Well, that’s something, huh? It’s an AI-generated image of President Biden. And Stone either found this somewhere online or made it himself by using an AI image creator. Either way, spreading such a weird image isn’t helping your case, my guy. That’s a very weird thing to just have in the chamber.

Or take far-right YouTube personality Tim Pool, who recently shared the tweet below of Trump holding a rabbit.

"You'll never know want or loneliness again." Trump said. "The world was cruel to you, but you have Trump now." pic.twitter.com/voxGTxw9Dn

Again, it’s fucking weird. These dudes are just very weird. Even when you exclude the weirdness that’s been invented of whole cloth, like the online meme that Vance supposedly wrote in his book Hillbilly Elegy about having sex with couches. For whatever it’s worth, there’s no evidence Vance had sex with a couch, but his attempts to laugh off the claim have been pretty sad. Vance even tried to make a joke at a rally on Tuesday about how his wife was going to make him sleep on the couch.

They can try to play off the jokes, but they always make it weirder somehow. Then there’s Trump’s own failed spawn, Donald Trump Jr., who epitomizes the weird label as much as anyone.

Yikes!!! @KamalaHarris https://t.co/6kQVemiPSf

They’re all a bunch of very weird guys. And there are so many examples on social media right now.

For his part, Trump is clearly disturbed by the way he and his supporters have been identified so clearly as weird. The former president sat down with Fox News propagandist Laura Ingraham on Tuesday and tried to spin the weird allegations against Harris.

“The whole thing is a con job. Just plain weird. You know who’s plain weird? She [Harris] is plain weird. She is a weird person,” Trump said.

That’s Trump attempting the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” defense, but it’s pretty pathetic. And the wannabe dictator just keeps getting embarrassed in national settings, like on Wednesday when he appeared for an interview in Chicago at the National Association of Black Journalists conference. Trump was extremely defensive when asked real questions and even tried to argue that Vice President Harris wasn’t actually Black. Trump also attacked one of the interviewers, a journalist for ABC News, giving one of his more unhinged performances due to the fact that he was hearing actually challenging questions for the first time in ages.

Q: You have pushed false claims about people like President Barack Obama, saying he was not born in the United States, which is not true. You have told four congresswomen, women of color who were American citizens, to go back to where they came from. You have used words like… pic.twitter.com/xAgvlx0TXD

Put simply, it was weird. Trump is weird. And he’s flailing, as anyone can see during his rallies these days. Speaking in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Wednesday night, he played all the hits, including his bizarre reference to the fictional character Hannibal Lecter.

Trump and his supporters are advocating for genital inspections at children’s sporting events, using apps to send their porn-viewing habits to their children, and falsely claiming that Democrats want to abort babies after birth. These are fundamentally weird people and there’s real power in just stating things plainly. Especially when Trump makes it so easy.

Do you want to see the Trump campaign’s latest email that went out to volunteers on Wednesday? Here’s a sample.

Yes, that’s a promise that volunteers who sign up for phone banking can earn a Trump trading card depicting the former president kissing a flag.

They’re just weird, folks. And they’re only going to get weirder as Trump continues to slip dramatically in the polls against Harris. With any luck, Americans won’t have to be worried about Trump or his weird minions anymore come November. Every decent person is just crossing their fingers on that one.
