We will finally have to wait until Sunday. While the championship resumes in 5 weeks now, the presidents of Ligue 1 have decided to postpone their decision on their choice of broadcaster for the period 2024-2029. The file was supposed to be closed today during a college of club presidents but the latest negotiations have once again delayed things until Sunday during the next board of directors meeting.

On paper, the two proposals have not moved. As has been discussed for several days now, on the one hand there is the offer of DAZN €375 million per year for eight of the nine matches per day. It would allow the immediate injection of fresh money into the clubs’ coffers. There are some reservations all the same. Until yesterday, not all the financial guarantees had been provided, the LFP wanting at all costs to avoid a new fiasco at Mediapro. These famous guarantees were presented in the last few hours. They come directly from the parent company of DAZN, Access Industries.

The presidents of L1 and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi do not agree with each other

Another solution is to set up the 100% Ligue 1 channel, commissioned by the League, but this offers fewer guarantees, despite the association with the Warner Bros Discovery platform. However, this is the idea that is preferred by the vast majority of clubs, according to information from RMC Sport. Problem, a president opposes this second option and not just any president since it is Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. He once again made his position known to his colleagues this Friday. Without doubt his hat as president of Bein Sports has something to do with it.

For several days, the Qatari channel has reactivated the channel of discussions with the League. It plans to make an offer to complete that of DAZNand thus be the broadcaster of this last match per championship day. This would also increase the overall offer proposed to the club. But Bein Sports is not willing to put a lot of money on the table, hence this new delay in negotiations between the different actors.
