Deadline’s TV Talk podcast is back for another season taking listeners all the way to the 76th Emmy Awards ceremony September 15. Strap in.

Succession is gone and that will make a lot of these other Outstanding Drama Series contenders breathe a little easier this year.

Nevertheless despite that Emmy juggernaut now being out of the way, the category is offering up a lot of intrigue anyway giving Deadline Executive Editor and Chief TV Critic Dominic Patten and Deadline Awards Columnist and Chief Film Critic Pete Hammond a lot to chew on – as you can hear about in this week’s TV Talk podcast.

Especially chewy is the last minute maneuver by FX to announced two more seasons of what was thought to be their Limited Series, Shogun and then as all the speculation started boiling up they confirmed the series would instead be submitted as a Drama Series. There can be no doubt that with the addition of this lavishly produced epic series now in the mix, others including past winner The Crown in its final season started to sweat a little.

We look at the playing field now and assess the chances of those two shows, plus the surging The Morning Show, the admired period piece Gildend Age, the overdue Slow Horses, and Amazon’s very hot and popular Fallout which could be a real sleeper here. There are many others too including Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Loki, 3 Body Problem, The Curse and more.

Speaking of the God of Mischief – Loki’s Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino join us to talk about the second and likely final season of the Disney+ series.
