A major surprise unfolded during Manchester United’s training today as out-of-favour forward Marcus Rashford, who is a priority winter target for Barcelona, unexpectedly participated in Wednesday’s session, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The Red Devils convened to prepare for their upcoming UEFA Europa League match against Rangers and much to everyone’s surprise, the 27-year-old Rashford participated in the training and could possibly be included in Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Turn around in situation?
It had been widely expected that Rashford would leave Manchester United during the closing stages of the transfer window, given that he has not played for them since December 12 and has been absent from eight of the last nine matchday squads.
Barcelona, as such, had emerged as the frontrunners to secure his signing on loan for the rest of the season, with it being said that an agreement over personal terms was also in place.
However, his involvement in training has now introduced an uncertain new scenario regarding his future.
It must be noted that United manager Amorim, following their recent 3-1 defeat to Brighton, acknowledged that Rashford had chosen not to play in the match and stated:
“I will not select a player whom I do not believe is the best for the team.”
These comments had been interpreted as a signal that the player was set to leave the club imminently.
Meeting between Barcelona and Rashford camp
On Tuesday, a meeting took place in Lisbon between Deco, Barcelona’s director of football, and agent Arturo Canales, where the possibility of Rashford’s move to Barcelona was discussed.
Deco was asked about this in the build-up to Barcelona’s match against Benfica and he simply commented:
“We are working on the ‘fair play’ issue, resolving it. If we can ultimately strengthen the team, we will try, but as of today, there is nothing.”
With uncertainty surrounding Rashford’s potential inclusion for the upcoming European clash against Rangers, his future remains up in the air, and it is far from clear whether he will arrive at Barcelona or not.
