Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is facing two critical selection dilemmas ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final.
It must be noted that since taking charge at the club, Flick has made bold choices in shaping his squad, which has largely been down to the number of injuries, but the upcoming final presents unique challenges as he looks to field his best team.
In the semi-final against Athletic Club, the German manager made some notable decisions. Gavi was introduced into the starting lineup in place of Dani Olmo.
The latter, despite being physically fit, faced a delay in obtaining his federation registration, which prevented him from being eligible to play until 24 hours had passed.
Meanwhile, Wojciech Szczesny retained his spot as the starting goalkeeper. This came after Inaki Pena arrived late to the morning activation session, which opened the door for Szczesny to start.
Two big decisions

Now, Flick must decide whether to give Gavi continuity in the final or restore Olmo, who missed out on recent games but will now be available for selection after CSD’s ruling.
A similar dilemma exists in goal. Szczesny has been impressive in his two starts, keeping clean sheets in consecutive matches, including against Athletic Club.
His crucial saves, notably against Inaki Williams and Gorka Guruzeta, showcased his reliability.
On the other hand, Pena had previously solidified his position as the first-choice goalkeeper after Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury but now faces strong competition.
As the final approaches, Flick must weigh his options carefully. While these decisions may be tough, they reflect the depth and quality of the current Barcelona squad—a problem any manager would welcome.
With a trophy on the line, every choice will be pivotal in securing victory.
