Two European giants have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to reports.

The 26-year-old is into the final year of his contract with the Reds and is seemingly yet to formally discuss an extension to his deal.

The right-back came through the club’s academy and has become one of Liverpool’s key players but is now attracting interest from abroad.

Real were seen as the only likely destination should the Englishman look to move on, but the Spanish giants are now said to be facing competition for Alexander-Arnold’s signature.

That’s according to talkSPORT who suggest that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also keen on the full-back should he decide to move on.

Despite both clubs’ interest, however, it is believed that Carlo Ancelotti’s side still remain in pole position and have made the full-back their ‘priority’ transfer target ahead of the January window.

Dani Carvajal’s season-ending injury against Villarreal earlier this month has left the Spanish champions with a huge hole at right-back.

And reports in Spain suggest that Real would rather not wait until the end of the season and may try to sign Alexander-Arnold in January before his contract expires.

Tottenham’s Pedro Porro, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and Sevilla’s Juanlu are also said to be on the club’s shortlist.

Speaking to ITV while on international duty with England, Alexander-Arnold did not rule out leaving Liverpool in the future and said his main motivation was chasing silverware.

‘I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public and this one won’t be either,’ he said.

‘The most important thing is always trophies if I am honest. I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite.

‘So that is probably the main factor of anything, if you have a personality that is elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win then that is what drives me.’
