Recording artist Tyler, The Creator is boarding the Josh Safdie directed movie, Marty Supreme, opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet. The pic reps the multi-hyphenate’s on-screen feature film debut.
Plot details are under wraps, but the movie is reportedly inspired by pro ping pong player Marty Reisman. Ronald Bronstein and Safdie wrote the screenplay, with the pair to produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24.
Reisman was a legendary American table tennis player known for his flamboyant style and exceptional skill. He started playing the sport at a young age and quickly rose to become one of the most iconic figures in the sport, winning multiple national and international titles. He was particularly known for his strong emphasis on spin not to mention a distinctive forehand and backhand technique. Reisman was known for being a master of deception and could manipulate the ball in ways that confused his opponents.
Tyler, The Creator is also a songwriter, producer, director, designer and more. He first emerged in 2007 as the founder of the collective Odd Future before going on to co-create and star in the cult TV show Loiter Squad on Adult Swim with his Odd Future cohorts. He’s a Grammy Award-winning artist, released six studio albums, launched the internationally-acclaimed music festival Camp Flog Gnaw that has sold out a decade running, created two lifestyle brands (Golf Wang and le FLEUR*) that have collaborated with heritage brands like Converse, Lacoste and more, as well as developing two more TV shows (The Jellies! for Adult Swim and Nuts & Bolts for Viceland) and designed a capsule collection for Louis Vuitton. His 2019 album IGOR debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart which was also named Best Rap Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. His most recent album, Call Me If you Get Lost debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart in June 2021 and earned him his second Grammy for Best Rap Album
